COCA LEAF TRAIL

2 DAYS 1 NIGHT

Experience the ancestral wisdom of the Amazon.

Step into a traditional maloca and share with an Indigenous elder the knowledge of mambe, rapé, and stories around the fire. More than a tour, it is an encounter with the jungle, its spirit, and your inner connection.

DAY 1

  • Departure from Leticia with a taxi transfer along the Leticia–Tarapacá road for 7 km. Meet your local guide and begin a jungle walk (approx. 1 hour 45 minutes). Depending on the river level, the hike may include walking through water.

  • Arrival at the maloca and welcome by the elder and his family. Introduction to mambe (coca leaf powder mixed with yarumo ash) and rapé (medicinal tobacco), their meaning and use in different Indigenous cultures. Optional participation.

  • Lunch with local knowledge. Time for a river bath as a cleansing and nature-connection experience.

  • At dusk, night walk for insect observation and jungle sounds. Return to the maloca for dinner.

  • After dinner, storytelling session, conversation, and mambe sharing around the elder. Rest in a hammock with mosquito net inside the maloca (basic accommodation).

DAY 2

  • Breakfast at the maloca. Handicraft workshop with natural fibers. Temporary tattoo activity using huito (Amazonian fruit whose pigment can last around 10 days, similar to henna). Lunch at the maloca and preparation of luggage.

  • Hike back to the road, taxi transfer along the Leticia–Tarapacá route to Leticia. Arrival at the hotel around 4:00 PM.

NOTE

  • This Maloca experience is available as a full-day option, departing from Leticia at 8:00 AM and returning around 4:00 PM.

  • During the day, you will experience an encounter with ancestral Amazonian culture, sharing time with the elder and his family, learning about mambe and rapé, and participating in spaces of conversation and traditional knowledge. You will also enjoy a jungle walk and a lunch with traditional local flavors.
